Got 'invaded' by a group of young people - at least 16 or more - apparently underage - drinking and partying and basically taking over most of the house inside and outside. The freezer was packed with alcoholic drinks. Because of the noise, no sleep was possible. At about 3 am I went outside and talked to them to try and quieten them down. It looked as if staff were happily participating in the 'celebrations'. Great was my surprise when the next evening some were back, at least, this time, partying with the staff at the back of the house but still making a huge noise. Again, a whole freezer full of alcohol.

The property was half finished being painted. It looked rather tacky from outside. The staff stayed in and during the day would be shouting at their kids playing in the pool. No respect for guests while you are on the premises with their noise levels.
It was not a nice place to stay at all. It is 400m from the sea, as the crow flies. It was not homely, and the reception was not welcoming.

We really enjoyed our stay at Ridgesea Guest House. The staff was friendly and provided good customer service. I can definitely recommend this guesthouse to friends and family. However, the breakfast was not up to par as most of the items we were expecting were out of stock.
The owner did not buy coffee, we could not have coffee with breakfast the next morning. They had water interruptions while we stayed there.
Firstly we were met by the caretaker in pyjamas, the photo did not represent the room we booked. The outside chair was broken, the inside bench was broken, the shower was unhygienic and the shower head was broken. We only had one bedside lamp. The TV was blocked for almost all channels and we could not watch the sport or programs we wanted to. Whilst ask not to throw the tea bags into the toilet which is understandable they provided no Tea. The other guest we extremely loud till well after 11:30 pm every night. They also did not alert us to the fact that they were Halaal with their various rules which did not suit us at all. Sunday morning there was no running water, whilst I understand that the entire area did not have water, one would at the very least expect a guest house to have some sort of backup, at least to wash your face and flush the toilets or offer some sort of assistance with bottled/bucket water.
Well received. The room was serviced every day. Delicious breakfast daily is included in the price. Also very affordable.

Especially if you book for 8 or more days. There is DStv, but only the cheapest package imaginable. Monkeys also bothered sometimes, so windows and doors had to be closed all the time. Did feel safe with secure parking. WiFi was available all the time, except with "loadshedding". Inverter might be an option to consider.

Guesthouse manager is a great soul, warm and welcoming. Cooks a hearty breakfast, more than enough to eat. Made us feel right at home and cannot fault her service or cleanliness of the rooms in anyway. Only thing that was a little bit of a surprise upon arrival was that the owners have restricted the residence to strictly halaal so no bacon or alcoholic beverages were allowed on site to enjoy a glass or red at night in the comfort of your 'home' away from home. You can of course go out and enjoy it at a diner or restaurant. Thank you for an enjoyable 5 days.

Hostess very friendly and helpful although the agent/manager who called me was not professional. Each room does not have a balcony and/or partial sea view. You also can't order dinner as advertised. Dining area is incredibly hot and the fan only makes noise but not cold. Breakfast very tasty and large variety but no bacon or pork sausages. Garden very neat and swimming pool nice and clean but guests are not allowed to enjoy a drink there.
Everything was in order we enjoyed our stay, I would definitely go back.

My stay at Ridgesea was pleasant, place itself is lovely. The host is very friendly. Room setup was good. Was just very disappointed about the lack of Covid protocol that was followed on the premises and by the host. On arrival I was welcomed by the host with no mask and throughout the stay it was not worn. On 2 occasions we walked into the kitchen in which breakfast was getting prepared and it was done without staff wearing a mask. The owner needs to look at his fumigation services issues. We had these insects in 2 rooms and around the passage area. I did bring it to the host attention in which she said it was not there before but will inform the owner. Thank you.

We had a comfortable stay and the breakfast was good.
Staff is very friendly. Very neat and clean. The house could do with some renovation regarding the paint, inside and out. A suggestion that will attract more guests is to put up shade net canopies for the guests' vehicles. During our stay, we and some of the other guests talked about the lack of protection of your vehicle against the sun and possible hail.
The guest house itself is very hot and stuffy inside, especially the dining room where breakfast is taken. The rooms are wonderfully cool with the air conditioning in them. The owner may really consider installing a good air conditioner in the house itself that can make the house feel and smell cooler and fresher.

No host/wife available, got keys from security, he also slept in the living room (which was close to the rooms downstairs), and had the TV on all night.
Pillowcases were torn and there were no towel rails. Unfortunately, we were booked again a week later and could not cancel the stay due to the cancellation policy. Breakfast is also only served from 8 o'clock, no bacon/pork is served.
We can honestly recommend Ridgesea. The staff were always friendly and helpful. It was definitely value for money, no wonder so many people use the guest house.

The location of the guest house was perfect, but we were a bit shocked when we found two large cockroaches in our room. There were black ants in the bathroom and room all the time. If you put food down for 2 minutes there are ants. Other than that the service was very good, you immediately felt welcome. The breakfast was also good.

En route to Ridgsea the owner called to find out what time we would arrive and what time we would like to have breakfast. We arrived after 6:00 and my appointment was 7:00. Breakfast is only served later, but she made left me a sandwich, yogurt and fruit in the fridge. Our experience was very positive and I can recommend this guesthouse.
The hospitality was particularly good, the hostess was very helpful. We are made to feel at home from the moment we arrived, feel like family. Hostess goes out of her way to make you feel at home. We will definitely visit again. Few places offer what this guest house offers and that is their exceptional hospitality. Thank you very much, you deserve a 5 star and more.
We had a great stay at Ridgesea, everything was perfect and it is very close to the sea and restaurants. Here, any request is not too much to ask for the management. We were surprised with flowers and a delicious cake when we left (it was our 1 year wedding anniversary).
Ricky was very kind to let us in earlier. Our room was upgraded free of charge to a larger room with bath. The breakfast was delicious. Leaves floated on the pool making swimming difficult in the heat. The photo is misleading as there was no sea view from any room. Security with a car guard was very good.

Excellent, recommend it. Also some advice that I found with the cleaning of the rooms that they use a very strong chemical not sure what they use to clean. It's just too strong for us! There is no personal attention. I couldn't use my computer for two days because no one knew the WiFi code. The hostess was never available. I had to replace the TV remote's batteries myself, no one to discuss with. The property appears neglected. Pool seats are broken. Outdoor lights lie on the ground. Garden neglected. Very poor experience.

Amongst other things what I really enjoyed by Ridgesea Guest House is that it can accommodate very few people, and that makes it to be very quiet and private. What a family friendly place it is! You just feel as if you are at home. It is a really home away home type of accommodation. The highlight of my stay at Ridgesea was their breakfast. They cook as if they are cooking for an army. If you don't want to gain extra kilojoules, I suggest you don't go there because there is no way that you can resist their mouth-watering breakfast. Wow! It was divine! The swimming pool was very convenient because it can be hot at Umhlanga. The 24/7 security service at the place makes one to feel safe and relaxed. Close to a very nice small shopping complex with all the necessary amenities. Let alone having to walk to the beach, you really don't need to drive. I highly recommend this guesthouse! 100%

Ridgesea is located centrally - it's so much fun to get everywhere. I've also enjoyed the tranquility, wish we could just sleep all day long, it's so peaceful. Thank you for feeding us such a nice breakfast, and for the clean surroundings and for going the extra mile for us. We forgot a cellphone in the house and we found it placed in our bedroom, such trustworthy staff, and for that I'd come back again. Friendly staff and a beautiful place, I love your huge bathrooms. This place is quiet and away from the busy streets of Durban city.

Really great stay. From the first moment, Felicity and Thembi made us feel welcome and at home. The food was just amazing - we enjoyed the really good breakfast. Our room was very neat and the air conditioning was heaven sent in the hot, humid weather. And security was present, we felt very safe. Gateway mall and Umhlanga beach are in close proximity. We will definitely return and recommend to friends, family and acquaintances.
The accomodation was adequate, although the bed was very hard. The food was tasty and well served. One was made to feel very much at home.
She needs to invest in better beds as ours were not comfortable at all. Beside that, everything was out of these world, and we enjoyed ourselves.
